My mother - Tzipora Haklai (Novgorodsky)
1932-1991
My mother was from the "old population" of Israel fifth generation
in
Israel previous to the zionist movement, She is from the old Luria family
,her mother's grandfather was among the first jews who
lived in "yemin Moshe" the first neighborhood beyond the
walls of the old city of Jerusalem which was built with the help of Sir Moses
Montefiore and carry his name.
My grandfather was nine year old when his father died and he had
to support his mother and his brother and sister, My grandfather's
mother was from the Amdursky family.
My mother grew in "meonot ovdim I"
a neighborhood of working class jews with a new concept of
architecture in Israel based on some community sharing ideas,
My mother grave is at Mount of Olives near her mother, her father,
her grandfather (1941), her grandmother (1934), her
sister and her sister's husband all side by side.
My mother liked to sing, and was a member of Shiru Shir Ensemble
conducted by Aryeh Levanon.
She had
always an Immediate contact with Artists, She was very much talented
and gifted but she did not developed completely her natural
talent,
she had also a talent for mathematics she even skipped one class
but she did not developed
it.
Her parents were religious but believed
in the Zionist movement and her mother (My grandmother) Hannah
had a picture of Mona Lisa on the wall.
There was always something ambiguous underneath undeveloped in
this family.
Her father (My grandfather) Joseph had a very good natural tenor
voice which he used in the synagogue,
For the Bar-Mitzva he taught me himself
how to sing the "Haftara".
We used to play Damka together and he didn't like to lose.
Her brother Mordechai played the violin
for a short period as a child but left it, later he was a
soldier in the British army during world war II.
Her sister Carmela
played the piano but had never performed.
When I was a little Boy, my mother took
me to a concert of
the Israeli Opera of Edis de
Philippe doing La Traviata.
My mother encouraged me to sing, she even motivated
me to go and sing
"Jerusalem of Gold" to Naomi Shemer at Pardes-Hannah and
I did it first
thing in
the morning.
There were several songs that I had used to sing solo
before my voice
had been changed one of them was "Ilu Tziporim".
Among the Songs we grew on were those of Sara-Levi Tanai.
My mother was a consumer of an Israeli musical club
"Hamoadon Hamusicali" that
produced classical records for the Israeli
Public,
Among the records was Swan Lake which was my gate to Classical Music
My mother took me several times to the Theater (Casablan with Yehoram
Gaon, Utz Li Gutz Li with Arik Lavi...),
She took me often to the cinema from early age,
She took me from early age to Museums and to Fine Arts
exhibitions like the Rodin's Exhibition in Tel Aviv, I remember being
impressed
veru much by "The Hand of God".
My sister Yael likes to sing and she develops her voice.
Her daughter Shiri
Sivan plays the Flute.
