My grandfather came from Kilia -Bessarabia in 1920 to Israel as
Zionist pioneer ("the third Aliyah").
28 years before the beginning of the state of Israel. He changed his
name from Merimsky to Haklai (meaning a
farmer). He was for a short time at a Labor Battalion(Gdud
Ha'Avodah) At Tel-Adashim and at Atarot with his own Cowshed.
Five years after comming to Israel he went back to Bessarabia for
a short visit to get married to my
grandmother Menya and bringing her from Tatarbunary to Atarot. My Aunt
leah was born in Atarot.
He was among the Founders of "Tnuva" that supplied milk to all the
population of Israel based on
Hebrew labor. This people were painstaking and idealistic
and
very strong kind of people who built exemplary secular society very
united
with high moral standards based on equality justice and
sharing
that attracted immigrants from all over the world. Individualism
was something for reproof among this people on this historic period.
My brother Moshe was named after him.
