ALVIN AILEY'S PRODUCTION OF
ROOMS,
Jennifer Dunning writes in her book "Alvin Ailey-A life in Dance":
"The dance was loneliness and anguish laid bare.Alvin loved it
intellectually,
admiring the piece for the way it reflected the paintings of Yves
Tanguy
that had been its inspiration, as Alvin told one interviewer, referring
to his own works as "Rodin dance". Rooms has a kind of linear sculpture
to it. Everything is terrible simple, terribly honed, honed down to its
finest elements, so that you see only what Anna Sokolow wants you to
see".
Marcia B. Siegel in her book : "The shapes of change - Images of American Dance" focuses on this work
