Louis Horst and Anna Sokolow
Louis  Horst was the musical director for Denishawn (1916-1925)  and  Graham.
 

Anna had studied with Louis Horst and Martha Graham at the Neighborhood Playhouse before joining the Graham company.
Anna was Louis Horst's  assistant   Anna always had a dance to demonstrate what Louis wanted.
Anna worked with Louis Horst until 1938 and later spoke of him as her most important teacher.
 

Anna explained the Neighborhood Playhouse approch:
"With Graham we learned modern dance technique, and with Horst we began to study, and I mean study, choreography".
 

Lyric Suite is the work that caused Louis Horst to remark that Anna was now a choreographer with a language of her own  .
